Thanks for taking a moment to check out our blog. This journey that has led me to this point has been an exciting one. I want to tell you about that journey and learn more about me. I’m 29 years old and drones have given me opportunities that I couldn’t have imagined. I was born and raised in Salisbury, Maryland. I got into welding in high school and it led me to The Apprentice School in Newport News, Virginia. I was a structural and pipe welder working on nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines. While working there I was taking courses to earn a business degree. It was a fulfilling experience and I was on a great path until everything changed in July 2014. I was celebrating July 4th and swimming with friends. I dove into the pool and hit my head on the bottom. The impact caused my C6 vertebrae to fracture and it damaged my spinal cord. At that point my journey changed as I had become a C7 quadriplegic. I was no longer able to weld at the capacity necessary for my job.

I moved back to Salisbury to be with family while going through rehab. A few years later my dad decided he wanted to get a drone. I didn’t have any interest in them and was almost surprised that he wanted one. After watching him use it the interest sparked for me. I tried flying his and thought it was awesome. I had to get one for myself. I got a DJI Mavic Pro and began flying any chance I got. It gave me more reasons to get out of the house. Being in a wheelchair made it easy to be a homebody for a while. As I got better at flying and editing I thought why not try to turn this into a career. I decided to get my Part 107 license so I could do commercial work.

After getting a few small jobs I knew that this could grow into something real. I took some drone courses through Drone Launch Academy to improve my editing skills as well as learning the business side of the drone world. This all leads to where I am now. I have gained the tools and knowledge to be successful in this industry. I look forward to see how this journey continues and growing the business.
